While celebrating the 5th of May last night at the Rio Grande I met lots of great new people. The weather was great, it was happy hour, and the drinks were a plenty. I noticed that one of my new friends, Butch, had a Daytona 500 lighter. Great - this will be fun, let's talk Nascar. You can probably guess where things went from there....
Me: So, who's your driver?
Butch: Is there any other driver? (While pointing to his Budweiser)
Me: Oh, just kidding. New topic.
Butch: (catching on...) oh HELL no, you aren't a F****** Kyle Busch fan are you????
Well things continued on like that for a little while. But I feel the need to vent a little and stand up for my "bad boy" driver. First of all....this is a race to WIN. Do you understand that? Win. A whatever it takes attitude that is prevalent in all sports - and perhaps just maybe if Jr. had that attitude he wouldn't be in a 72 race slump. And while Kyle hasn't always had the best behavior or reactions to certain "situations" (think HANS device) he certainly isn't the first nor will he be the last...he's simple the current bad boy.
Dale Jr. is the first to admit that the Richmond race was simply hard racing. Neither driver gave enough room - it happens. Wrecks happen. Sadly, Jr. fans only see the long list of races lost and refuse to see the truly "hard racing" that actually took place.
I need to be done with my rant. As soon as I get on my high horse regarding Kyle he'll do or say something stupid to knock me right back down. He's good at that. None-the-less at the end of the day Kyle is going to continue to improve as a driver and continue kicking ass and taking names. Bless his heart.
